Our Story

As our namesake suggests, we believe that stories usher readers to the threshold of new ideas, other worlds, and as-of-yet-unexplored possibilities, imagining the world as it could be. Stories grow up in unlikely places and times, offering comfort or a difficult grace.

But, if you've ever spent a few minutes scrolling, you'll notice that words and stories are often uses incautiously even flippantly. And yet, so many of us desire to steward language with care and to use words hospitably. At Lamppost Press, we hope to participate in the stewardship and love of words and stories.

Lamppost Press was started by two friends, Anna Trujillo and Jessica Walters. We noticed there was a lack of small literary Christian presses in Canada and we sought to change that by starting our own.

Our aim at Lamppost Press is to cultivate a Christian literary community of writers and readers within Canada. We are seeking the kind of fiction, creative nonfiction, and poetry that we would like to read—work that is rooted in the Christian and literary tradition while also responsive to the present.

While publication is open to all, we want to encourage young writers as well as new and emerging writers to seek publication.

If you are a writer or reader, we would love to hear from you!
